Camp 2:  Up coming and high school ages   July 17-21, 2017

Camp drop off @ 8am and pickup at 4pm @ our designated headquarters.

Day 1:  Teambuilding challenges and initiatives.  SMG trains and develops programs for corporate groups all over the world and this program is adapted for youth participants.  SMG utilizes traditional \”ropes course\” type experiential team building to begin facilitating cohesion within the group to lay the foundation for the week of adventure.  Participants will be creatively challenged through adventure based games and initiatives throughout the day.  They will come away with a stronger sense of trust, teamwork, problem solving techniques, and renewed self confidence.  We may end with time swimming in a river that flows from the Nat. Park.  Lunch will be provided this day.

Day 2:  Caving!  Camp participants will get muddy and wet as we crawl and climb through a wild cave.  Our staff have led trips for the History Channel and will allow safety to be the primary concern as we learn about the cave systems and have an adventure of a lifetime.  Please pack a lunch for your camper.

Day 3:  Hiking one for the 3 highest peaks in the GSMNP.  Day 3 is a transformative portion of camp.  The group will be tested and challenged to come together and encourage each other to accomplish a climb to over 6000\’.  As we take in expansive views, eat lunch on the mountain and feel proud of our accomplishments, participants will also be learning as we move.  Our staff will be creating hands on opportunities for learning about the life in the mountains.  We teach about invasive species, flora & fauna, and all the work that goes into preservation for this incredible National Park.  Participants will have the opportunity to learn backcountry cooking techniques as we serve up a big lunch.

Day 4:  Canoeing!  We enjoy a hot summer day by canoeing one of our local rivers.  As the day begins, participants learn necessary skills to correctly navigate a mild river or lake.  This day is one of the campers favorite days with water wars and excitement.  We share lunch on an island before we finish the section.  Staff will be instructing campers on paddling techniques and safety as well as swift water rescue techniques.

Day 5:  Rock Climbing!  We get to travel to a great outdoor rock climbing area with real rock.  As the day begins, SMG creates and incredibly fun but more importanly safety focused orientation.  Our goal is not only for the participants to climb and enjoy, but also to learn the skills needed to actively participate in all aspects of the day.  At all times, campers are engaged in belaying or other supportive roles as friends are climbing.  This is a great way to end camp while there are individuals that will choose to conquer fears and push their limits.  Also, there will be those that choose to not participate at the same extent in which we will support and encourage them to see that is a great decision and relate that to their lives as they leave camp.  We have the opportunity for rappelling as well this day.  Day 5 will end with a nice presentation for the week to the parents and families as we wrap up the best week ever.

*The goal of our camp is not to be a babysitter, but to use adventure as a catalyst to teach skills in leadership, develop self confidence, teach team reliance and encourage the growth of youth to make well educated decisions.*
